One thing I noticed recently is many bloggers (on the Blogger platform) complaining of YouTube videos uploaded by them not showing or displaying properly on their published blog posts, i.e. either a black square or nothing at all is displayed in the space where the video ought to be. Well, I'm here to share with all a fool-proof way of posting YouTube videos so that they display properly every time.
There are actually two ways of posting YouTube vids onto your posts. The first is the easy way, where at your "New Post" screen, you simply click the "Insert a Video" button located above the text box and follow the instructions. Problem is, YouTube videos uploaded using this method don't always show or display properly on published posts as I've described above.
The other method - which I'm going to share with you now - is to embed the YouTube video into your post by copying its HTML script (or embed code) onto your draft write-up. Now, I know many bloggers shiver at the mere thought of having to fiddle with HTML scripts - yours truly included - but believe me, this is really easy and takes no more than two minutes to complete. Ready? Here we go.
1. Go to YouTube and search for the video which you'd like to post on your blog. Just beneath the YouTube video (see Diagram 1), you'll see a "Share" button which I've circled here in bright yellow. Click on the button and proceed to Step 2.

2. After you've clicked on the "Share" button in Step 1, a screen as per Diagram 2 below will appear. Click on the "Embed" button beneath the video (circled in yellow) and proceed to Step 3.
Diagram 2 |
3. After clicking the "Embed" button, the video's HTML script - or embed code - will appear (circled in Diagram 3). Copy this code and proceed to Step 4.
Diagram 3 |
4. Refer to Diagram 4 below. At your blog's "New Post" screen:-
- Click on the "HTML" button near the top left of your screen (smaller circle).
- Then paste the HTML script/embed code which you copied earlier in Step 3 onto the space where you want the YouTube video to appear on your finished article (larger circle). Proceed to Step 5.
Diagram 4 |
5. Now click on the "Compose" button (circled in yellow in Diagram 5). If you'd performed Steps 1 to 5 correctly and in that sequence, a screenshot of the video should appear (in this instance, Slash from Guns N' Roses doing what he does best). This means you've successfully embedded the YouTube video into your blog post. You can now proceed to input your text and finish writing your post as usual.
That's it; you're done!

DeleteThank you bro.....Im was looking for this article.
ReplyDeleteHey, no worries, Yenny. Glad to be of assistance.
DeleteThis doesn't work for me: YouTube as I see it (on iPad & iMac) doesn't have a 'share' tab at all, it has a funny little icon (three dots joined by two little lines), and when you click on that there is no 'embed' option (or window containing embed code) at all. I've also tried copying and pasting the URL for the video, both into the 'compose' & the 'HTML' modes of Blogger, but this only results in my blog showing a bit of code, and not the video itself. I'm really frustrated with this, as almost everyone posting on this topic suggests the 'share > embed' method, which is something I used to use myself, but is no longer a viable option, as YouTube (at least as it appears on my Apple gear) simply doesn't give these options.

DeleteHi there, Seb. Thanks for leaving a line. For starters, I'm not in Mac, so I didn't know about this issue UNTIL I tried it on a friend's iPad after I read your comments. Sure enough, there isn't a share option. In fact, there's nothing remotely similar. I'm afraid I can't shed more light on what you've just brought up here. Maybe I ought to mention in my post that this method only works on Windows. Very many thanks nonetheless for telling me.
DeleteSeb,
DeleteI experienced the same issue as I updated blog / view youtube on my ipad, but there is a way around it. From searching, I found the info below which worked great for me:
"from the youtube home page I had to click on the triple horizontal bar icon on the left side of the page and then still on the left side of the page scroll down to the bottom where it says Desktop and click on that. Then the desktop version of Youtube will appear and then you can find the Share and Embed words to click on after selecting/watching a particular video."
Thanks it is working now. But when I open that blog in mobile, it is not working. It gives me following message, "Couldn't load plug-in." Please help.
ReplyDeleteIt worked! Thanks.
